Rekto:verso

Published since 2003, Rekto:verso is a free Belgian-Flemish magazine – online and in print – offering social commentary from the perspective of arts and culture. Rekto:verso publishes reflections and opinions on film, performing arts, music, literature, and visual art, often linked to current discussions in the cultural field. Looking for a broad readership interested in culture and society, we don’t distinguish between ‘high’ and ‘low’ art; we dig deeper than newspapers but are more accessible than specialist journals.

We publish in Flemish but aim to reach a more international public in the coming years. Our quarterly print issues are thematic (topics include Europe, the internet, monsters, humour, work, and decolonization, among others). Online, we publish opinions, critique, interviews, and essays on current artworks and debates. We also organize live panels, workshops, and other discussions.

In short, as a magazine on culture and criticism, we want to ensure that society gives more attention to the arts and that the arts become more aware of society. Our strapline is: ‘the situation is critical’.

We brengen opiniërende artikels over muziek, podiumkunsten, film, literatuur, tv, beeldende kunst…
