Eurozine partner: Reset

Our Italian partner Reset is highly active and outspoken on current European and especially Italian politics.
In 1993 the editors of Reset started the endeavour due to their deep scepticim and the impression that the current political developments are on the wrong track. In Reset‘s selfdescription it says:

“Its [Reset‘s] inspiration is secular and progressive, liberal and socialist; it propounds a new reformism, supports the centre-left wing, of which it wishes a renewal, and it is not affiliated with any political parties. It intervenes on major cultural, historical, philosophical, sociological, national, and international issues, paying particular attention to the analysis of the dynamics internal to modern democratic systems, to the globalization process, and to the impact of new communication technologies upon society.

The latest issue, fresh from the printers, focuses amongst other themes on liberalism and democracy, the question of citizenship and diaspora as well as new anti-Semitism. Reset contributed two texts from this new issue to Eurozine: Marco Onado’s investigation on the Parmalat scandal and an interview with writer Nuruddin Farah discussing the notion of “diaspora” (for a complete list of articles contributed by Reset, please see: http://www.eurozine.com/partner/reset/selfdescription.html

Reset‘s activities do not cease with the bimonthly magazine but expand to various other endeavours; such as the online publication Caffè Europa (www.caffeeuropa.it which offers new issues – on European themes – on a biweekly basis), and the multilingual webmagazine ResetDoC (www.resetdoc.org) which focuses on intercultural dialogue, updated on a biweekly basis.

Furthermore, Reset organizes lecturers and publishes books such as those by Norberto Bobbio, Pierre Bourdieu or Bassam Tibi on Euro-Islam.

From 19-20 March, Reset organizes a conference on “Liberal-Socialism in Europe: The Future of a Tradition”. This conference is divided into three sections, the first investigating the history of liberalism, the second concentrating on the challenges and difficulties, entitled “Between Free Market and Public Intervention”, and the third section seeking an outlook to the future of a European neo-progressivism”. Speakers are politicians and intellectuals such as Adam Michnik, Anthony Giddens, Giuliano Amato, Emma Bonino, and many other prominent names.
