Metamorphosis of "The Bear"

Essay about the opera “The Bear” created by composer Bronius Kutaviçius based on the short-story by Prosper Mérimée CD. Though the composer claimed that he wrote an opera in the style of the XIXth century, the music of “The Bear” is extremely beautiful, it goes much deeper than one would expects, – concludes the author of the essay and reproaches him for choosing a theatrical conception which is out-dated and no longer convincing.
