Jaan Kaplinski

(b.1941 in Tartu, Estonia) studied linguistics at the University of Tartu. He is a poet and essayist. Between 1992 and 1995 he was member of the Estonian Parliament. He is author of numerous poetry books and essays. He is also translator of English, French, Chinese, and Swedish.


Jaan Kaplinski thinks about globalization – its advantages, disadvantages and its history. The diagnosis leads him to propose an utopian concept of rural life that is linked to the positive achievements of the present.
