Naive, the hawks would say

"Ny Tid" says that only diplomacy can defuse the Iranian bomb; "NAQD" warns that the Arab revolutions are not as feminist as the West thinks; "Blätter" wants an enquiry into institutional racism in Germany; "Letras Libres" pays its respects to a rare revolutionary; "Arena" asks the bane of the Norwegian far-Right to explain Breivik; "Res Publica Nowa" struggles for objectivity amidst the tyranny of opinion; "Merkur" is still angry with Kohl; Springerin observes how artists lead the market when it comes to precarity; "L'Homme" finds that international development begins in the home; and "Vikerkaar" reads 150 years of Estonian thanatography.

English
springerin is a high profile magazine, one of the leading discursive organs in the German-speaking realm of art, theory, cultural studies, new media, and popular culture. springerin combines the advanced discourses in critical theory with a detailed treatment of cultural production in different contexts of globalization. As a magazine with an advanced and trendsetting graphic design, springerin is seen as the model for an arts magazine of the future. In the past years, authors like Sarat Maharaj, Lawrence Grossberg, Meaghan Morris, Chantal Mouffe, Ernesto Laclau, Homi Bhabha, Miwon Kwon, Mark Dery, Tricia Rose, Trinh Minh-ha, Brian Holmes, Roger M. Buergel, and Arjun Appadurai, as well as influential artists like Dan Graham, Dara Birnbaum, Michael Asher, Hans Haacke, Stan Douglas, Heimo Zobernig, or Florian Pumhösl, Dorit Margreiter, Marina Grzinic, Mike Mills, Andreas Siekmann, Walid Ra'ad, Critical Art Ensemble, and Julie Ault have contributed to springerin.

springerin combines coverage of the most profiled events and cutting edge figures of the so-called western art world with an investigative look beyond its borders. springerin is renowned for its knowledge of the art worlds of central and southeastern Europe, the Caucasus, India, and the Pacific, as well as Africa and South America. The magazine, not to the least for this reason, has been invited to present its editorial strategies at the Biennials of Havanna and Alma Ata, at New York University and the Moskow Arts Fair, in Berlin and Stockholm, as well as in Belgrade, Jerewan, and Rotterdam amongst many other places, and, for instance, by the team of documenta 11.

Among the readers of springerin are curators, art dealers, artists, critics, and a young urban public throughout the German-speaking world and beyond. springerin has subscribers on all continents.

Deutsch

Islam and democracy
The history of an approximation

http://www.eurozine.com/articles/2011-12-19-amirpur-en.html

Per Wirten
Where were you when Europe fell apart?

Too many Europeans have too long avoided the question of Europe, says Swedish writer Per Wirten. To prevent the EU from turning into a "post-democratic regime of bureaucrats", intellectuals need to stop mumbling and take the fear of Europe seriously. [more]
