New Poetry 2007: From the Helicon Arab-Hebrew Poetry School
Women and men, Jews and Arabs, seculars and religious -- descriptions of the Tel-Avivian bar scene alongside questions from the religious sphere, West across East, romanticism with cyber-sex, and spiritual hunger alongside urban decadence.
Zachi Abramov, Hila Aharon Barik, Ayala Ben-Lolo Moskovitich, Lovna Daniel, Yehodit Drigs, Aayeida Hindawy, Raga Zaatra, Slsbil Halifa, Nadav Leniel, Abdel Slem Saaba, Yaair Sendar, Peaar Friedman, Rachel Perez, Sausan Kataaish, Gilaad Shmiloavitch, and Anat Sharon Belais create a mosaic that captures the directions, styles, and interests of the 2000s generation. With all its dynamic forces and contrast, the picture created holds a mirror to the batch of life created here.
Helicon's Poetry School graduates learned, worked, translated, and performed together and shared a ground of mutual respect and understanding during months of companionship and work.
A quick glance at the achievements of Helicon's graduates testifies to what has been known for years for anyone following the poetry scene in Israel: like its predecessors, "New Poetry 2007" is intended for curious souls with the desire to view the future of Arabic and Hebrew poetry in Israel.
