They removed the veil

Pernilla Ouis and Anne Sofie Roald adopted the headscarf back in the 1980s at the same time as political Islam began to grow. Now they are part of a global trend towards secularisation in which more and more women are shedding their headscarves and veils. [ more ]

Plan B or not to be

"Critique & Humanism" takes a neighbourly view on Turkey; "dérive" doesn't play ball; "Reset" picks up the pieces after Veltroni's defeat; "Multitudes" joins the carnival; "The Hungarian Quarterly" finds the country in a gloomy mood; "Mittelweg 36" asks what's in a friendship; "Revista Crítica" reads epistemologies of the South; "Springerin" sees the provincial in the universal; "Kulturos barai" watches patriarchs fall; and "Cogito" casts a tragic hero for our times.

Genero Self-description

Genero is the new title of the former journal on feminist theory called Women's Studies, which the Centre had published since 1995. Genero follows the concept and established tradition of the former journal and the Centre as the whole, such as: interdisciplinarity, a critical approach towards science and culture topics, affirmation of the right to difference, questioning the issues of identity, emphasizing contributions of domestic authors and those from the region.

Feminist thought over the past fifteen years has strongly developed in the Balkans, eastern and central Europe. Genero aims to reevaluate, revise, reread, and rewrite the position of the Other, different and marginalized -- with its special position in the region.

Genero welcomes texts on issues such as difference, otherness, identity and minority from the Women's and Gender Studies perspective. Genero also aims to introduce new fields into this multidisciplinary theory, such as history and sociology of physics, biological reasearch and music.

A further important endeavour of Genero is to offer space for students interested in the subject to publish their works, thus initiating and supporting the voices of the younger generation. By its name and design, too, the journal is aimed at people in their mid-twenties.
