The Central European Forum, a four-day international conference open to the public, takes place in Bratislava from 15 to 18 November 2012 at the Astorka/Korzo ’90 Theatre, Námestie SNP 33.

In 2009, on the 20th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, the first Central European Forum was held in Bratislava. Since then, Eurozine has been a media partner of this event, which every year gathers some of Europe’s most interesting writers and intellectuals. The Central European Forum is also a partner of the project Time to Talk, an initiative of ten European “debate houses” to coordinate their efforts and further public debate about European issues. In December, Eurozine will launch the website of Time to Talk.

In 2012, the Central European Forum revisits Václav Havel’s famous motto, featuring panels on “Lies”, “Hatred”, “Stupidity”, “Fear”, Change”, “Protest” and… “Experts”.

Participants include: Zygmunt Bauman, Oksana Zabuzhko, Ilija Trojanow, Eszter Babarczy, Robert Menasse, Adam Michnik, Leonidas Donskis, Martin Simecka, Jáchym Topol, Anna Jermolaewa, Ulrike Ackermann, Jens-Martin Eriksen, György Konrád and Miklós Haraszti.

Most debates will be broadcasted live on the website of the conference.
