Alain Touraine
born 1925 in France, received his history "agrégation" from the Ecole Normale Supèrieure, Paris in 1950. Further studies at Harvard, Columbia and Chicago universities and researcher at the CNRS (French National Research Council) in Paris until 1958. Numerous publications, amongst them Workers Movement, The Return of the Actor and Critique of Modernity. Recipient of many honorary degrees from European and American universities, member of several French and international academies and committees dealing with issues such as bioethics, immigration, teaching and research, and of the World Bank Commission on sustainable development.
