Romano Prodi
was born in 1939, in Scandiano, Italy. Law degree from the University of Milan, further studies at Milan and Bologna and the London School of Economics. Visiting Professor at Harvard University and Stanford Research Institute.
From 1974 to 1978 chairman of the publishing house Società Editrice Il Mulino. In 1981 he founded Nomisma, one of the leading Italian economic consultancies, and chaired its Scientific Committee until 1995. From 1978 to 1979 Industry Minister. From 1982 to 1989 Chairman of the Institute for Industrial Reconstruction (IRI), at the time Italy's largest holding company. In 1996 the Left-Centre coalition "Ulivo" won the Italian parliamentary elections and Prodi became Prime Minister of Italy. Since 1999 he is the President of the European Commission.Eurozine Articles
