Jean Lacouture
was born in 1921 and is a journalist, historian, author, and filmmaker. He began his career in 1946 as a press officer in Indochina and later followed the decolonization process as a journalist in Maghreb, South East Asia, and Central Aftica. He is the author of a biography on Charles de Gaulle, and, in May 2005, published the biography of Gamal Abdel Nasser.
