The organized upperworld

"Osteuropa" analyses Hungarian politics in upheaval; the "Dublin Review of Books" says together, small EU-states are strong; "Reset" asks Napolitano what Einaudi would have done; "Le Monde diplomatique" (Oslo) goes deep into debt; "dérive" inspects the foundations of Red Vienna; "Esprit" says home-owning is not the solution to the French housing crisis; and "Studija" urges western art critics to get past Cold War clichés.

...and never the two shall meet?

Nationalism in Belgium might be different from nationalism in Ukraine, but if we want to understand the current European crisis and how to overcome it we need to take both into account. The re-transnationalization of literary criticism

Critical discussion of foreign literature serves as a source of information not only for readers but also for the "trade". When that discussion disappears or becomes one-sided, this has consequences for the literary institution as a whole. [Estonian version added] [more]

Does Central Europe still exist?

In an editorial for a special issue of "Res Publica Nowa", Carl Henrik Fredriksson argues that narrow-minded realpolitik in Central Europe makes cross-border publishing endeavours all the more important. In the context of such transnational practices, the question whether Central Europe still exists becomes less consequential. [more]

[more]

Digital antiprovinsialism

[more]

[more]
