Assia Djebar
(1936) is considered to be one of North Africa's greatest contemporary writers. Her novels include La Soif (1957), Les Enfants du Nouveau Monde (1962), and Les Alouettes Naïves(1967). Her most recent work is La disparition de la langue française (2003). She was elected to the Académie française in 2005.
