Audrys Juozas Backis
(b.1937 in Lithuania) moved with his parents to France in 1938, graduated at the Gregorian university in Rome, became a priest, worked at the Lateran university and later as papal diplomat in the Philipines, Costa Rica, Turkey and Nigeria. In 1991 he was appointed as archbishop of Vilnius and cardinal in 2001.
