Neal Ascherson
(b.1932) is a journalist. He has written for the Manchester Guardian, the Scotsman (1959-1960), the Observer (1960-1990), and the Independent on Sunday (1990-1998), and is now a regular contributor to the London Review of Books. Recent books include Stone Voices: the search for Scotland (2002) and The Black Sea (1995).
