Janos Kis

born 1943, Professor for Political Philosophy and Director at the Institute for Political Science at the Central European University, Budapest. Co-founder of the Hungarian oppositional journal Beszelö; founded the "Network of free Initiatives" with others in 1988; it later evolved into the "Alliance of free Democrats" (SzDSz), chaired by Kis until November 1991. Publications: Abortion: For and Against (ung.), Budapest 1994; Politics in Hungary, Columbia University Press, 1989; Do we have Human Rights (ung.), Budapest, 1985.
