Good Society Debate
Numerous Eurozine editors have been contributing to the Good Society Debate, initiated by Jon Cruddas (MP) and Andrea Nahles (MdB), in association with Social Europe Journal, the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, and Eurozine partner Soundings. Asking "Where now for European Social Democracy?", Cruddas and Nahles call for a "new political narrative that combines sharp analysis of the shortcomings of the economies and societies we live in with an authentic and convincing vision for the future".
In response, Märt Väljataga (Vikerkaar) writes that social democratic parties need to rediscover their populist roots; Per Wirtén (Arena) argues for a rejuvenation of the "Third Way"; Samuel Abrahám (Kritika & Kontext) prefers a politics of small steps over unattainable goals; Artur Celinski (Res Publica Nowa) says that the Left should be using the vocabulary of Walesa rather than Foucault; and Remi Nilsen (Le Monde diplomatique, Oslo) thinks that the Social Democratic balancing act is doomed to fail.
