Summary for Reset 108 (2008)
What identity for the newly formed Democratic Party, Habermas and the postsecular society, Lacan and the conflict between religion and psychoanalysis – these are only some of the topics of the new issue (no. 108) of Reset.
Reset publishes the lecture Jürgen Habermas gave on postsecularism at Istanbul Seminars in June 2008, a conference organized by Reset – Dialogues on Civilizations and Istanbul Bilgi University. Habermas continues his reflections on the postsecular age and the difficult relationship between religion and the public sphere, reflections which in the past gave rise, amongst others, to his discussion with Cardinal Ratzinger.
Giuliano Amato, Filippo Andreatta, Roberta Pinotti, Gad Lerner, Nadia Urbinati and others discuss the future of the Democratic Party (PD). After the defeat at the national elections earlier this year, it is about high time that the party carves out a clear identity.
Jean Baubérot, a French sociologist, explains why laicism is multiple in nature in our contemporary world. Giancarlo Bosetti, Muriel Drazien, Charles Melman, Jacqueline Risset, René Girard and Massimo Rosati discuss the thesis of Jacques Lacan according to which religion will eventually replace psychoanalysis.
Avishai Margalit analyzes the principle of solidarity with regard to movements of the political left. Daniele Archibugi shows the limits of John McCain's proposal of a League of Democratic Nations. Dossiers on intercultural relationships as well as friendship and politics (John von Heyking, Jürgen Gebhardt, Emidio Spinelli) complete this issue of Reset.
