Self-description Revolver Revue


Časopis Revolver Revue vznikl v roce 1985. Jméno časopisu vyvolává řadu asociací – nejen s odvahou a rizikem, ale také se senzačností (v hovorové češtině se adjektivum "revolverový" asociuje s bulvárním novinářstvím), jakož i s myšlenkou mechanismu, jako je rotující bubínek revolveru – obdobně mezi lidmi kolovaly samizdatové publikace a odpalovaly svá ostrá poselství. Tato kombinace vážného a ironického pohledu na vlastní práci byla a je pro Revolver Revue typická: logo časopisu tvoří obraz "Košířské madony", krasavice na reklamním plakátu, zavěšeném nad barem pražské restaurace Klamovka, kde se redakční tým obvykle scházel.

Kruh spolupracovníků a autorů Revolver Revue vytvořil jednu z nejsilnějších nových generací, které se objevily na scéně v posledních desetiletích, zejména na poli poesie a prózy. Časopis publikoval literární texty, kterými se oficiální státní nakladatelství z různých důvodů odmítala zabývat. Dalším výrazným rysem Revolver Revue byl důraz na vzhled časopisu. Na rozdíl od jiných samizdatových publikací měla Revolver Revue velmi kvalitní design obálky, byla vázaná a obsahovala ilustrace. V listopadu 1989 využili editoři Revolver Revue svých zkušeností k založení Informačního centra "sametové revoluce". První legální číslo časopisu pro literaturu a umění Revolver Revue vyšlo v prosinci 1990.

V současné době má Revolver Revue kolem 300 stran a vychází čtyřikrát ročně. Nové technologie, o které se redaktorům za samizdatu ani nesnilo, umožňují věnovat značnou pozornost výtvarnému umění ve formě tematických bloků, srovnatelných s malými monografiemi. Pro Revolver Revue je zde ale také typické, že svůj zájem nevěnuje aktuálním módám a trendům, a namísto toho poskytuje prostor umělcům, kteří jsou i přes nepochybnou kvalitu z toho či onoho důvodu ignorováni širokou veřejností a oficiálními uměleckými institucemi. V letech 1995-2004 vydávali editoři druhý, odlišný časopis: Kritickou Přílohu, věnovanou kritice umění, literatury, filmu, divadla, televize i sociálních a politických událostí. Od roku 2005 obsahuje Revolver Revue kritický oddíl v každém čísle.
