Energizing the European public space
The 17th European meeting of cultural journals
The 17th European meeting of cultural journals that took place in Tallinn, May 14-17 2004 discussed the state of transnational public spaces for cultural and political debate in the context of the European integration project. Can there at all be a common Europe without a pan-European public sphere, where potentially common values and ideas can be formed and transnational political institutions can find their legitimacy?
Central to this conference, Eurozine publishes a speech on the creation of such a space: Carl Henrik Fredriksson, Eurozine's editor in chief calls upon the established national European newspapers to carry forward a pan-European public sphere.
